Countertop 03:43
a note on the countertop the bus pulls out of the station the air was thick over the motorway suspended in a murky gray when I left unsaid and morning bled suspended in each cloud of breath a yearning for a turning while you were in the throws alone too I wish I knew I thought I’d fled the worst of it all but girl I was wrong I ran from a quake to the pit of a sinkhole now I’m reaching through invisible fibres closer in this distance than I ever knew we toil different soil but the dirt is the same it’s there on your face, yeah you wear it the same the same, the same yeah you know it by a different name now when I walk into the unknown I find it reassuring I survived some time ago gathered my strength made it home

the sun won’t come that high over the tenements for a long while so I drag my chair where the branches lay bare with all the hardy kinds and the sweet pines and the skin that waits exposure whats done departs like dust scatters into matter reassemble if you must but then is born another dimension of events taking you further than what was truely there like an arrow in the night not directionless but out of sight I called you by name thought I saw you again in a crowded sea in which I sunk to be digging ever deeper the labour of the lost lands lain out before me as constellations clearer in the distance whats done departs like dust scatters into matter reassemble if you must but then is born another dimension of events taking you further than what was truely there

meeting at the precipice my mode of default it is hard as rock I bring a hammer and I go for a walk hidden in the shrubbery rustle in the leaves the rustle never leaves snakes of steam come rising magestic in the sun the everyday transforming like the vapour in the air for a moment I departed floated way up there the rustle never leaves a window in to calmness in the wake of turbulence searching out a stillness to distill to distill meeting at the precipice my mode of default it is hard as rock the rustle never leaves
4.
Jeans Hill 03:02
in the fold of your hold I seek to find what I already know but there’s a mass unfamilair and its growing like the breaking morning curtains glowing drawn, but not for long delicate murmur now cuts through formless shapes in the night revealed by the light still up on jeans hill sun splitting the sky it sinks in where the viel thins the horizon meets the eye you know its time to let it lie you know its time to let it lie I know you had to go before it swallowed us whole part like the wind on a chime the shard softens in time still up on jeans hill sun splitting the sky it sinks in where the viel thins the horizon meets the eye you know its time to let it lie see what seperates you from the weight and cast it all aside
5.
Old Lessons 03:40
it’s a digital funeral and the ceremony has departed from me I see your blue silk scarf on the chair I go outside and feel you everywhere I called you were there sometimes the surface cloaks the motion in the arms of chance and what is chosen is it the same wind blowing past a love built to last, built to last seek the name gone unspoken coursing over you on the edge of your bed the skylines shifted gold kisses red though I’m met with unfamilar scenes it feels like fragments of forgotten dreams now I watch like the crow collecting old lessons that glisten as new can I watch the moment that’s passing without being divided in two and if I set myself at this table will I be devoured by you sometimes the surface cloaks the motion in the arms of chance and what is chosen is it the same wind blowing past a love built to last, built to last seek the name gone unspoken coursing over you
6.
Ghost Beach 03:55
6. Ghost Beach I don’t want to run keep seeing the exit light above every turn each bridge built set alight I don’t know what could flourish here when you’re a ghost at the beach in the summer no one believes when you’re a smouldering trail of space dust no one see’s dead wood in the garden paled to the colour of saturn stark in the open field evidence of what once flourished here why uproot it still bares fruit see the moss, the sparrow don’t hide from the shadow when you’re a ghost at the beach in the summer no one believes when you’re a smouldering trail of space dust no one see’s
7.
she is a retreat where river and valleys meet she shakes the cobwebs from my head lain in bed and there is a grace in every line on her face and there is a place for everything and it has its purpose so I move to pause, because, because oh the clouds are coming in so I learn to read them the clouds are coming in so I learn to greet them stop and take stock she tends to the weeds they have thier roots in me they sprung up from the embers from the embers white clover, perennial soldier all along the border oh the clouds are coming in so I learn to read them the clouds are coming in so I learn to greet them stop and take stock oh the clouds are coming in clouds are coming in all I’ve ever known held by a string tethered to something make the cut and let it go the clouds are coming in
8.
on my way home I see my ghost steps from when I left my mark in white and think back to that night when we danced and made twisting patterns in the sand like the spiralling constellations on land we held hands we held fast and laughed right out and into the night and it echoed off the starlight the crescent moon’s an opening all things come around again all things come around again look out of my window and its sepia tone yellow sky held up by branches white as bone glancing out, glancing out all the lines criss crossing across the scene and the blank spaces in-between and the blank spaces in-between the crescent moon’s an opening all things come around again in the thaw I saw cracks bring a softening all things come around again
9.
carnations bouyant in the kitchen flooded in sun sleep drowined in coffee focus on what’s to come when the ache sets in and threatens not to let go again won’t try to shake it off like a wet dog I’m staying in I’m staying in let it move through me like an empty house filled with leaves don’t shut the door that’s what the breeze is for don’t shut the door that’s what the breeze is for a window opens to a cloud filled sky feel them like ghost limbs as their drifting on by till they dissolve to fragments glistening till the ocean cries like the moon is listening I go for space to the water side watch a layer of light move along the purple loose strife and think of motion when I wanted to be still but the current runs, the current runs keeps everything alive everything alive
10.
Gorse and brooding sky body of water breaking at low tide it’s the sound of an opening heart enfolds and leads you right back softly pierces, let’s light through the cracks while it still devastates, it’s a passing place it’s a passing place, it’s a passing place it’s a passing place so ask me again ask me again ask me again ask me again
11.
Keep Count 04:00
get in from work, wash off the dirt as loose as a tooth held by a thread you gave it away you gave it away held like a delicate egg in the palm of your hand you loosened your grip and it started to slip you gave it away you gave it away and saw as it cracked there is no turning back and inside it was black but no more it’s the sun on the floor the sun has risen it’s a vision found in the last place you would look in my fear started as a small mite but they grew arms and legs at night named them as they closed in tight called them and watched as they recoil when you hold too tight to the line it will break and bend let it go again hold out your hand collect it like rain let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go again let it go again

about

The title Exit Light plays with the urge for an escape, the alluring light of the exit, the compulsion to ‘run for safety’ and answers with an album that lingers with sitting with oneself, or one's surroundings, sitting with the pain or the beauty, the love and the loss, the duality that they can exist at the same time even. It’s a call to let go and an invitation to observe what’s around in the moment.
